Imaging Our Outdoor Learning and Play Space

This summer, Dani Porter Born, and environmental educator is leading all of us through a series of sessions to explore how we can make our outdoor space at SPSNL reflective of the learning and curiosity we hope students will cultivate within it.

You, your student(s) and family are invited to join us for any and all of these sessions as we observe, brainstorm and prep the space for the coming school year. The creation of this space together as a school community is important to us, so we won't be making any final decisions until all students are present this fall.

Below are the dates that Dani will be joining us:
Sat Aug 10 10am-12pm
Tue Aug 13 6pm-8pm

All sessions will take place at the school: 426 Osceola Ave S

Parent Learning Group

For the next few weeks, we're shifting how we're gathering as parents from a meeting format to a work days format!

At last Thursday's meeting (see documentation here), we had a rich conversation about what it might mean to make our school a place where the children are all of our children and we are all helping each other thrive.

The parents who gathered last week learned that there is much to do to prepare our school, and planned that first work day last Sunday. Now there are more coming! We have a ground-level opportunity to contribute to our communal thriving, by helping to prepare our school for the year(s) ahead. All we need for these to happen is YOU!

Show up for an hour or 3 or 6 - we’ll take whatever you have to give! Bring friends if you can!

Work Days Scheduled So Far:

Where?
At the school
426 Osceola Ave, St. Paul. Link: Map it.
Use entrance near the parking lot, under “WELCOME” sign

What?
Painting, Inventory, Furniture Moving, Miscellaneous Tasks

F.A.Q.
What if I don't know how to paint or do inventory or I’m not handy?
Come anyway -- we can show you how and there will be other ways to contribute. We don’t need perfection. We need progress.

Will there be food?
If you bring it! Please bring some snacks to share if you can. If you'll be there during lunch or dinner, pack something to eat, or we may arrange to order in some food together.

What should I bring?
Glad you asked! If you can, here are some things to bring (and no worries if you don't have any of these!)

  • Wear clothes you can get messy

  • If you have extra trimming brushes or paint rollers, absolutely bring them (there are a bunch at the school, but more never hurts)

  • We could also use more ladders

  • Snacks to share

  • Your kids if you feel they would like to join and be helpful - involving kids in the making of the school will help build excitement and give them a sense of ownership. But you know them best - kids are not required :)

You'll be hearing more along the way, but mark your calendars, roll up your sleeves, and come on down!

There are FB events up for these dates, posted in the SPSNL parent group. (Feel free to join if you haven't yet!)
